The U.S. Department of Commerce, Herbert C. Hoover Building (HCHB), was designed in 1928 by the prominent New York architectural firm of York & Sawyer. Completed in 1932 as part of the Federal Triangle Development, the HCHB was the largest building in Washington D.C., occupying a site comprised of three city squares. In total, there were more than 3,300 rooms when the building was designed and 2,482,708 square feet. The historic bronze doors within the HCHB are located on the first floor level, between corridors 1 through 7. After a detailed inspection it was determined that nineteen (19) exterior bronze doors, transoms, handrails, and floor sills needed to be cleaned and re-stored to their original condition. The Offeror shall also clean and restore four (4) bronze window grills located above the main lobby entrance doors on the 14th street side of the HCHB. The awarded contractor must have previous experience with the restoration of bronze decorative architectural elements, and will be held liable for any destruction done inadvertently or otherwise.
