The USDI Bureau of Land Management is requesting quotations for a three-year tamarisk eradication project in Colusa County, California, specifically along Bear Creek and Thompson Canyon. The contractor is responsible for applying a specific pesticide mixture consisting of Stalker, Round Up Pro, Hasten, and purple dye to tamarisk shrubs up to 25 feet tall. Work is divided into three phases: an initial eradication in 2004, followed by follow-up treatments in 2005 and 2006 to address resprouts and missed plants. The project area consists of a mix of flat benches and rugged canyon terrain, requiring the use of 4x4 trucks and ATVs. Qualified contractors must be Certified Herbicide Applicators licensed in California and provide a Hazardous Material Spill Contingency Plan. Key restrictions include a prohibition on applying pesticides within 10 feet of water, a wind speed limit of 10 MPH, and strict avoidance of marked private lands and agricultural study sites. The contractor must supply all equipment, pesticides, and water, as local creek water is unsuitable for mixing. Proposals are due by July 2, 2004, and must include documentation of the company's ability to operate in restricted, rugged terrain.
