Fairfax High School Major Modernization Project

The Fairfax High School Major Modernization Project, managed by the Los Angeles Unified School District, is a comprehensive facility upgrade located at 7850 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, California. The project aims to address critical physical concerns and align the campus with current instructional programs by replacing, renovating, and modernizing existing buildings and grounds. The scope of work includes the demolition of the existing Shop Building, Gymnasium, Utility Building, Ticket Office, and Relocatable Sanitary Building. In their place, the project will construct a new gymnasium, specialty classrooms, outdoor physical education courts, maintenance and operations facilities, and an Art Gallery Building. Additional improvements include exterior painting of existing structures, landscape and hardscape enhancements, and parking upgrades. The project also encompasses essential infrastructure upgrades for electrical utilities, water, storm water, and sanitary sewers, as well as code-required accessibility upgrades. The project has received formal approval and environmental certification under the California Environmental Quality Act, with the Notice of Determination filed in September 2025.
