FAIRworkflow - a Dutch bioinformatics community to support harmonized workflow development, infrastructure and education

The FAIRworkflow initiative, managed by the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek under the Exacte en Natuurwetenschappen agency, is a Dutch bioinformatics community dedicated to improving the transparency and reproducibility of biological data analysis. The project addresses the fragmentation caused by incompatible workflow systems such as Nextflow, CWL, WDL, Snakemake, and Galaxy, which often lead to the loss of valuable research and redundant efforts. By establishing shared standards, harmonization tools, open repositories, and comprehensive training resources, the community aims to streamline data analysis for researchers, clinicians, and students. This effort is designed to make scientific workflows more sustainable and efficient, ensuring that bioinformatics advancements are directly applicable to healthcare and broader societal needs.
