The objective of this project is to preserve the remaining historical assets of the Historic Fleischmanns Freight House, previously part of the rail depot that once stood on the site, and ultimately develop the site into a visitor-friendly site with rail access for tourist-based historic train rides as well as possible additional functions such as a welcome center. The development of the site would be a collaborative effort between the Catskill Revitalization Corporation, Delaware County, community stakeholders, and other regional partners to determine the best course for re-use and revitalization of the site overall. Funding will be utilized to retain professional consultants to provide an assessment of both the site and the freight house structure for required rehabilitation, including designs and cost estimates for the construction of a new foundation. Designs and cost estimates for both a full basement as well as a crawl space option are desired. Additionally, the project will include the development of a Master Plan/Historic structures report that can identify/preserve important historical assets while providing for the improvements/enhancements necessary to rehabilitate the structure for reuse as a functional component of the Delaware & Ulster Historic Rail programming. The structure shall serve the tourism rail ridership by allowing for boarding and unloading of passengers as well as a location for restroom facilities.
