Federal Prison Industries, Inc. (FPI), a division of the Department of Justice, issued a follow-up notice regarding the manufacture of solar electric power systems classified under FSC 6117. Initially posted on April 3, 2008, FPI proposed to competitively produce solar panels outside the use of its mandatory source, aiming to expand its production capabilities in this area. Despite the open opportunity for public feedback within the designated 30-day window, no comments or objections were received. This lack of response effectively cleared the path for FPI to move forward with its intended production plans. The contract solicitation, identified as SBDM-20-2008 and posted on May 30, 2008, pertains to the production of solar electric power systems under NAICS code 334419. The effort is managed by FPI's Strategic Business Development and Marketing office, located in Washington, D.C. Interested parties or stakeholders wishing to communicate regarding this initiative are encouraged to reach out to the Chief of Strategic Business Development and Marketing, with Roger Martineau serving as a key point of contact. The contract highlights FPI’s ongoing role in federal manufacturing efforts while indicating an openness to competitive processes in the solar power sector.
