AI Contract Overview

Marten River Campground in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park, Alberta, requires a complete replacement of its outdated and nonfunctional septic system, which has been out of service since 2022 and no longer complies with Alberta’s Private Sewage Standards. The existing infrastructure, which previously served the dump station, shower house, and check-in booth, is unable to handle current demand, resulting in costly and unsustainable off-site waste hauling. A 2022 preliminary assessment identified the need for a new system based on local soil conditions, recommending treatment mounds as the optimal solution. The proposed design must also accommodate the potential future connection of the staff house and maintenance shop, which currently rely on a separate, isolated septic tank, requiring flow calculations and mound sizing to include this optional expansion. The Government of Alberta, through Forestry and Parks, is seeking qualified engineering proponents to deliver full professional services including detailed design, regulatory approvals, tender documentation, and construction oversight to ensure the new system is reliable, environmentally compliant, and operationally efficient. Proposals are due by May 29, 2026, and must demonstrate proven experience in wastewater infrastructure projects of similar complexity and scale.

General Info

Full Description

Marten River Campground is located in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park, and is located 25 km north of the Town of Slave Lake, Alberta. The campsite offers 110 powered campsites, a sandy beach, and amenities including showers, flush toilets, an amphitheatre, and a playground. The existing septic treatment system services the dump station, shower house, and check-in booth, but is not able to meet demands and has been nonoperational since 2022. As a result, septic waste is currently being hauled off-site. A preliminary wastewater assessment report was completed in 2022 and outlines the need for a new septic system to address both environmental and financial concerns related to the existing failed infrastructure. This report is included in the appendicles of this RFP. The 2022 report includes a conceptual design for a replacement system, based on local soil conditions and the need for treatment mounds. It also notes that the existing obsolete system no longer complies with Alberta’s Private Sewage Standards. Additionally, the staff house (4-bedroom) and maintenance shop are currently connected to a separate septic tank which is not connected to the existing wastewater treatment system. The proponent should account for the optional future connection of this system by including the associated flow in the design calculations and sizing the proposed mound accordingly. The purpose of this RFP is to invite Proposals from suitably qualified Proponents with demonstrated experience to provide professional engineering services for the replacement of the existing septic system at Marten River Campground. The successful Proponent will be responsible for completing detailed design, obtaining required approvals, preparing tender documentation, and providing project management and construction monitoring services as outlined in this RFP. Refer to the RFP document for additional information and complete scope of work.

Forestry and Parks - Pre-qualification Request - Surge Sustained Action Firetack Crews
Solicitation # AB-2026-02198
The Government of Alberta through its Forestry and Parks division is seeking qualified vendors to pre-qualify as potential providers of Surge Sustained Action Crews to support fire suppression efforts and related field operations when existing Firetack Crew contracts cannot meet demand. This initiative is triggered only when additional resources are needed beyond what is available through standard contractual agreements, and no guarantee of work is provided upon pre-qualification. Successful proponent(s) will be activated through a formal Statement of Work process, under which crews will perform tasks such as fire suppression, brush clearing, firebreak preparation, and other manual labor as directed by provincial authorities. Operations will be conducted entirely within Alberta under the direction of provincial personnel, and all work must align with the specifications and requirements outlined in the issued Statement of Work. The solicitation, numbered AB-2026-02198, was posted on March 16, 2026, with responses due by December 31, 2027. The contracting authority is Wade Klein, who serves as the primary point of contact for inquiries, and all activity is managed under the oversight of the Government of Alberta. Although the solicitation is listed under a federal portal, it is specifically a provincial initiative focused solely on addressing wildfire response needs within Alberta. Pre-qualification does not obligate the province to issue work, and activation will occur strictly based on operational necessity, with priority given to vendors who meet all qualification criteria and are capable of responding promptly to urgent resource requests.
