Smiths Detection is contracted to provide a Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) analysis system outfitted with SpectrAssist software, Grams/AI with SpecID, and an FT-IR Library of Common White Powders to support the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology's (AFIP) Microbiology Division within the Environmental and Infectious Disease Sciences Department. This procurement responds to a specific project under the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, requiring two additional ChemID Infrared instruments to ensure data comparability with an already purchased device. The demand arises from the need to perform identical work across multiple laboratories, maintaining consistency by using the same instrument and parameters as before. Smiths Detection’s equipment is uniquely suited for these requirements, as no other systems currently offer the necessary capabilities. The contract emphasizes the importance of maintaining data integrity and uniformity across different lab environments. Potential inquiries regarding this contract are restricted to email communication directed to the specified contact, while telephone inquiries will not be addressed. This delineates a focused and streamlined communication approach consistent with the procurement’s specific nature. The contract was publicly posted in late May 2005 and falls under the NAICS code 423430, indicating it relates to professional and commercial equipment sales.
