The Future Grid Challenge under PON 4393, revised for Round 5, aims to support innovative projects that enhance the performance and economic viability of the electric power delivery system in New York State, aligning with the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. The solicitation emphasizes challenges developed in collaboration with NYSERDA, New York State’s investor-owned utilities, and internal teams, focusing on solutions that address technical and economic barriers to market entry for new products and services. The current round has a proposal deadline of October 17, 2024, and includes updates such as increased minimum cost-sharing requirements of 25% for product development and demonstration projects, the removal of certain categories like Study, and the addition of new challenge documents from Con Edison and National Grid. NYSERDA is accepting full proposals across two main categories: Product Development, with funding up to $3 million and a 25% cost share, and Demonstration Projects, also up to $3 million with similar cost-sharing requirements. Demonstration projects must be located in New York State, and a New York manufacturer should be involved in new product development. The solicitation is open to all counties within New York State, with no specific set-aside goals for minority, women, service-disabled veteran, or disadvantaged-owned businesses. Interested applicants can find additional details and submit proposals through NYSERDA’s website, with the primary contact being Program Manager Christopher Cheng. The contract duration is yet to be determined.
