Galiano Fen Restoration Project

The Galiano Fen Restoration Project is a forecast initiative managed by the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Region 5 - Sacramento, located in Sierra County within the Tahoe National Forest. The project focuses on restoring 64 acres of fen, meadow, aspen, and upland habitat along Rock Creek. The primary objectives are to enhance approximately 22 acres of wetland habitat and 2 acres or 870 linear feet of stream channel habitat. To achieve these goals, the project will employ various ecological restoration techniques, including the use of beaver dam analogs, post assisted log structures, directional tree felling, forest thinning, and the use of heavy equipment to construct large debris jams. Additionally, the project will implement measures to correct hydrological disruptions caused by roads and relic mining ponds.
