The San Bernardino County Department of Public Works proposes to repair approximately 550 feet of existing pavement along Glen Helen Parkway, approximately 125 feet southwest of the Union Pacific Railroad crossing in the Devore area. The project consists of removal and replacement of the existing roadway pavement section. Associated improvements include modification of two drainage inlets and construction of curb and gutter. The work area has a maximum width of approximately 36 feet and a maximum excavation depth of approximately 3.45 feet. Construction equipment may include a bulldozer, wheel loader, excavator, rollers, asphalt paver, concrete breaker, jumping-jack rammer, and backhoe loader. Construction is anticipated to take approximately 30 working days and is expected to begin in spring 2027. The project will not increase roadway capacity, affect a streambed or storm drain, require nighttime construction lighting, require a traffic detour, remove vegetation or trees, affect existing buildings, or require utility relocation. Construction access will be from Glen Helen Parkway, and all work is proposed within the existing County right-of-way. The subject roadway segment was constructed as part of the Glen Helen Parkway Grade Separation Project, W.O. H14057. The original Grade Separation Project received a statutory exemption under Section 15282(g) of the State CEQA Guidelines for railroad grade separation projects. The Notice of Exemption was signed on March 11, 2010 and filed with the San Bernardino County Clerk of the Board on March 15, 2010. The existing roadway has since been damaged and requires repair.
