AI Contract Overview
The contract aims to sustain and expand neuro-health research collaborations through the Global Brain and Nervous System Disorders Research Across the Lifespan program, led by the Fogarty International Center in partnership with multiple NIH institutes. Its focus is on facilitating research that leverages the distinct scientific environments of low- and middle-income countries to enhance understanding and treatment of a wide range of neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions affecting individuals across their lifespan. This includes disorders such as neurodevelopmental, neuroinfectious, sensory, cognitive, behavioral, neuromuscular diseases, and more, using basic, clinical, translational, and implementation research methodologies. The program seeks to stimulate partnerships between U.S.-based scientists and researchers in LMICs to develop innovative, cost-effective interventions addressing the entire continuum of care from diagnosis through treatment and implementation. By encouraging diverse, collaborative projects, the initiative aims to generate scientific breakthroughs that not only improve health outcomes in underserved regions but also inform strategies and treatments relevant to U.S. and global populations. The opportunity is presented as exploratory grants with outreach managed by the Fogarty International Center.

Full Description
The Fogarty International Center, with NINDS, NIMH, NIA, NIEHS, NICHD, NEI, NIDCD, and NCCIH, intends to continue support of neuro-health research through the Global Brain and Nervous System Disorders Research Across the Lifespan program. Awards will catalyze and strengthen collaborative research on the brain and nervous system that leverages the unique scientific contexts of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) not readily present in the United States and, subsequently, optimizes our potential to address health needs in the U.S. and globally. Research on the full spectrum of neuro-health across the lifespan is encouraged - including neurological, neuromuscular, sensory, neuropsychiatric, neuroinfectious, cognitive, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disease - and encompassing basic, clinical, translational, and implementation research approaches. Projects will foster collaborations between scientists in the U.S. and LMICs to drive scientific advancement and the development of innovative, cost-effective interventions spanning the care continuum –– from diagnosis through treatment and implementation.
