The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications that propose early to definitive clinical trials. Trials testing drugs, devices, biologics, procedures, behavioral, social, economic, health services, or other biomedical or non-pharmacological interventions are of interest to this initiative. The trials should align with the research mission of the participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs) of the NIH.

The NOFO will utilize the R61/R33 activity code, a bi-phasic, milestone-driven award. The R61 phase provides support for planning activities, and the R33 phase provides support for a clinical trial, with a maximum project period of 7 years.

Applications are not being solicited at this time. This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and relevant projects. Investigators with expertise in clinical trial planning, design, implementation, intervention development, and/or stakeholder engagement are encouraged to consider applying for the NOFO.

Continuation of the Exceptional Longevity Data Management and Coordinating Center (EL DMCC) (U24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)The National Institute on Aging intends to issue a single U24 cooperative agreement award to support the continued operation and expansion of the Exceptional Longevity Data Management and Coordinating Center. Serving as the central hub for human longevity translational research, the center integrates deeply phenotyped cohorts and multi-omics datasets to enable cross-cohort analyses and collaborative research. Key responsibilities include data harmonization, the implementation of common data standards, and the management of the ELITE Portal, which provides the research community with secure access to analytical tools and cloud-based computational workspaces. The upcoming funding opportunity will require the Coordinating Center to expand its capabilities in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the integration of diverse datasets across different species. Future objectives include the development of curated target knowledgebases for therapeutic targets, the enhancement of portal interoperability according to FAIR data principles, and the strengthening of community engagement through specialized training and workshops. This notice serves as a forecast to allow potential applicants to establish collaborations before the official solicitation is released.
