Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) Task Force Support

The contract supports technical efforts to enhance the implementation and coordination of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System through active engagement with international bodies such as the International Maritime Organization, including its Maritime Safety Committee and the Subcommittee on Navigation, Communications, Search and Rescue, as well as the International Telecommunications Union, the International Electrotechnical Commission, and the Comité International Radio-Maritime. It involves developing strategies to address GMDSS implementation challenges, facilitating interagency and international meetings, and shaping the United States Coast Guard’s official positions to influence global standards that align with national regulations. The scope also extends to coordinating the development of national standards for maritime electronic systems, ensuring consistency and interoperability across domestic and international frameworks. In addition, the contract requires coordination of the Digital@Sea North America event, working directly with the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation and national aids to navigation authorities to define event themes, agenda items, and logistical arrangements. Support is provided across multiple U.S. states and in London, with responsibilities centering on project management, stakeholder collaboration, and technical advisory services aimed at advancing maritime safety and communication technologies. The effort is designated as a Small Business set-aside under NAICS code 541330 and is managed by the United States Coast Guard under the Department of Homeland Security, with direct point of contact available for inquiries and program execution.
