The Dugway Proving Ground S/K Challenge is a Department of Defense initiative aimed at fostering collaboration and reducing costs associated with equipment testing. This annual event provides participants with access to Dugway Proving Ground’s test facilities in Utah, enabling them to demonstrate and collect data on their chemical and biological detection equipment and processes in a cost-effective environment. The program supports the advancement of new technologies by overcoming initial entry barriers and financial constraints. In its current iteration, the S/K Challenge II offers a two-week demonstration period that includes the use of outdoor chambers and field scenarios, emphasizing realistic testing environments such as the Joint Ambient Breeze Tunnel and the Active Standoff Chamber. These facilities allow participants to engage with a variety of chemical and biological simulant challenges, followed by real-world field demonstrations. Participants also benefit from opportunities to network with industry representatives, international partners, and government entities during a VIP Day and throughout the event. The contract offers scheduled teleconferences and a face-to-face meeting throughout the year to coordinate and discuss details related to the event. The initiative is managed by the Dugway Proving Ground office under the Department of Defense, with contact and public affairs support readily available to assist interested parties. This effort represents an important collaborative venue for advancing chemical and biological detection technologies in an economically feasible manner.
