The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is seeking a portable handheld x-ray system designed for use across all its facilities to detect and identify various forms of contraband. The system must be capable of true lead detection, meaning it can identify lead and analyze the chemical composition of objects to confirm the presence of lead. It should incorporate both backscatter and transmission technologies to enhance detection capabilities. The design emphasizes a compact footprint suitable for use in confined spaces, with all components integrated to function as a single, easy-to-operate unit, minimizing the need for multiple adjustments or realignments. For security reasons, the system must operate without wireless data transmission, relying solely on a single power source to ensure safety and data integrity. The solicitation was posted on January 19, 2024, with a response deadline of February 2, 2024. The contract falls under the NAICS code 336390, which pertains to other aircraft parts and auxiliary equipment, indicating a focus on specialized technological equipment. The primary point of contact for inquiries is Christina Zambotti, reachable via email or phone. The procurement process is conducted through the Pennsylvania eMarketplace platform, where further details and the solicitation can be accessed.

Looking for a portable handheld x-ray system to be used in all DOC facilities to discover and identify multiple forms of contraband. The x-ray system must be able to perform true lead detection defined as the ability to detect lead and to identify the chemical composition of an object as lead.  The x-ray system will utilize both backscatter and transmission type technology. All system components must present the smallest footprint allowing for use in the most restrictive spaces. The System components should integrate in a way that allow for the least number of components, permitting the system and its components to perform as a single unit, promoting ease of use for a single operator or staff member.  The system should favor the least number of realignments of the transmission panel. For security reasons the x-ray system will not utilize any wireless technology for the transmission of backscatter or transmission scan data. The entire system should operate from a single source of power.
