Heidelberg Write Head Purchase

The NASA Shared Services Center is seeking a sole source commercial contract under FAR 12.102(a) for the purchase and installation of a high-resolution write head for the Heidelberg 66+ photolithography instrument located at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. The primary objective of this upgrade is to improve the system's capability by reducing the smallest writable feature size from 1 um to 300 nm. Heidelberg Instruments Inc. is identified as the sole provider capable of performing this work, as they possess the proprietary hardware and expertise required for the installation and performance verification of the instrument. The scope of work requires the contractor to remove the existing write head, install the new high-resolution head, and verify that the improved performance specifications are met. The final deliverable is an installed and tested write head, which must be completed within 60 days of the award, with a target completion date of October 30, 2026. While NASA intends to award the contract to Heidelberg Instruments Inc., a capabilities statement notice was issued with a response deadline of September 3, 2026, to determine if any other firms possess the qualifications to warrant a competitive procurement.
