Higgins Fire Station

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is overseeing the construction of the Higgins Fire Station on a 7-acre parcel located at 23036 West Hacienda Drive in Grass Valley, Nevada County. The project consists of a 9,296 square foot two-engine fire station featuring a 3-bay apparatus building and 18-bed barracks, a 2,048 square foot administration building, and an 816 square foot storage building. Comprehensive site development includes earthwork, drainage, stormwater systems, roads, paving, and various utilities including electrical, solar, and LPG/natural gas. Specialized installations will include a 2,000-gallon fuel vault, two 1,000-gallon propane tanks, an 85 kW generator, a ground-mounted photovoltaic system, and electric vehicle chargers. The project has undergone a rigorous environmental review process in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), resulting in a Final Mitigated Negative Declaration. This process included a public review period from October 1 to October 31, 2025, and coordination with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board to ensure compliance with water quality standards and NPDES permits. The project also adheres to American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
