The Human Trafficking Youth Prevention Education (HTYPE) Demonstration Program, administered by the Department of Health and Human Services under the Administration for Children and Families, provides funding to local education agencies (LEAs) to implement programs focused on human trafficking awareness. In partnership with nonprofit or nongovernmental organizations, LEAs will train school staff to recognize signs of trafficking and provide students with age-appropriate guidance on avoiding labor and sex trafficking. The program emphasizes a comprehensive approach to prevention, including the identification of victims, established referral procedures for available services, and adherence to federal and state reporting laws. Additionally, participants must develop safety plans in consultation with local law enforcement to protect students and staff who report trafficking activities. While the primary focus is on schools, providing prevention education to caregivers remains an optional component of the program.
