Illumina MiSeq i100Plus sequencing system

The Food and Drug Administration is seeking to acquire three Illumina MiSeq i100Plus genomic sequencing systems to enhance its capabilities in analyzing foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, and STEC, as well as viruses and parasites. These new instruments will replace older models by offering superior technology, increased throughput, higher accuracy, improved efficiency, and a reduced cost per genome. The systems will be utilized by OAMT scientists to support the in-silico design and development of FDA sequencing applications, optimize next-generation sequencing laboratory protocols, and evaluate emerging genomic methods including Targeted Amplicon Sequencing against whole genome and metagenome sequencing approaches. One unit will be assigned to MOD1 within DFES, another to CPK1 within DFSG, and the third to Moffett within DFPST, though the latter is currently unfunded.
