DARPA, along with the Program Executive Office for Littoral and Mine Warfare and the Naval Sea Systems Command, is inviting industry participation in an advanced research initiative targeting revolutionary improvements in military efficiency related to littoral and mine warfare. An industry day briefing is scheduled for July 27, 2006, at CACI in Washington, DC, to detail Navy far-term functional requirements and to foster the submission of white papers addressing key mission areas. The event will include a briefing by the Office of Naval Intelligence on expected developments in small boat characteristics over the next decade. Focus areas for technology development include advanced scanning and surveillance systems for threat assessment in complex environments, non-lethal engagement technologies for neutralizing threats, and defensive measures against simultaneous attacks by groups of small boats, with potential integration into Littoral Combat Ship mission modules. Attendance is limited to personnel with appropriate security clearances, with a maximum of two representatives per company and a total seating cap of 50, requiring pre-registration by July 25, 2006.
