AI Contract Overview

The contract involves the procurement of 15 units of a fiber optic switch, identified by NSN 7R-6021-015160771-EX, with delivery terms FOB origin to Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, Florida. This acquisition is a sole-source procurement, as the government intends to negotiate exclusively with a single approved source due to the flight-critical nature of the item and insufficient technical data available to support full and open competition. Potential suppliers who are not currently approved sources must submit detailed technical data and documentation as outlined by the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) in order to be considered. However, the government may proceed with awarding the contract to the current approved source if source approval of new suppliers cannot be obtained in time to meet operational requirements. The notice emphasizes that this procurement is not a request for competitive quotes, though interested parties may express their interest and submit capability information. Any responses will be used primarily to determine if a competitive procurement should be initiated, but the government’s decision to waive competition rests solely with government discretion. The contract is managed through the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, under solicitation number N0038310PG038, posted on January 7, 2010. The procurement process references specific NAVICP brochures detailing source approval and commercial item identification requirements to ensure compliance with technical and regulatory standards.
