Jamul Indian Village Land Disposal and Exchange

The Jamul Indian Village Land Disposal and Exchange project is a land swap between the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Jamul Indian Village of California located in unincorporated San Diego County. Under the terms of the exchange, CDFW will dispose of a 1.1-acre parcel from the Rancho Jamul Ecological Reserve to the Tribe to facilitate future cemetery expansion. In return, the Tribe will transfer a 4.0-acre parcel, known as the Slee property, to CDFW to be incorporated into the Hollenbeck Canyon Wildlife Area for conservation purposes. The project was managed by the CDFW South Coast Region 5 and concluded with a Notice of Determination on October 8, 2025. Environmental reviews were conducted in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), resulting in a Negative Declaration that found no significant environmental effects. The exchange is further governed by the Jamul Indian Village Land Transfer Act (Public Law 118-119). Technical ecological comparisons confirmed that the exchange is suitable, as both properties feature similar vegetation and topography, with the 4.0-acre parcel providing high-quality habitat for conservation. No immediate development activities are proposed as part of this land transfer.
