Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center of Southern California

The University of California, Davis is overseeing the renovation of a 23,000 square foot, one-story metal-framed building located at 5040 Shoreham Pl, San Diego, CA 92122. Previously used as a law office, the facility will be converted into the Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center, a 24-hour clinic specializing in emergency, critical care, oncology, and surgery. The project is scheduled to open in late 2025 and will support approximately 40 to 45 employees during day shifts and 10 to 12 during evening shifts. The scope of work involves extensive interior modifications to create 17 exam rooms, three surgical suites, an intensive care unit, an anesthesia area, an emergency room, and a compounding pharmacy for pet medications. Additionally, a specialty wing will be established to house cardiology, endoscopy, oncology, nephrology, and ultrasound rooms. The project includes necessary modifications to building systems, minimal exterior changes to the main arrival area, and upgrades to accessible parking. This project is categorized as a categorical exemption under CEQA Section 15301, as it involves minor alterations to an existing facility with negligible expansion of use.
