John Muir High School Athletic Facilities Modernization Project

The Pasadena Unified School District is implementing the John Muir High School Athletic Facilities Modernization Project in Pasadena, California, to ensure campus facilities comply with California Interscholastic Federation regulations. The scope of work includes a comprehensive overhaul of athletic areas, featuring gymnasium enhancements with new interior finishes, upgraded shower facilities, an expanded lobby, and new HVAC and electrical systems. The pool deck modernization involves demolishing two existing pools to construct a new 40-meter pool, a new equipment building, and updated lighting. Football and track improvements include the installation of home bleachers with a 1,500-seat capacity, visitor bleachers with a 700-seat capacity, a new press box, team rooms, and new restroom and concessions buildings. Additionally, the project covers general baseball field improvements, the installation of Musco lighting and a new scoreboard, and campus-wide upgrades to parking, ADA accessibility, and critical site utilities including water, sewer, storm drainage, and electrical services. The project is executed in three distinct phases. Phase 1 focuses on the pool and gym modernization from July 2025 to October 2027. Phase 2 covers the football and track and field improvements from November 2025 to June 2026. Phase 3 addresses the baseball field improvements from May 2026 to May 2027. All work is performed on-campus and is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act as it does not increase student or staff capacity or expand the campus boundaries. The project is managed under the direction of the Director of Facilities, M&O, and Transportation.
