Keene Pavement Project

The California Department of Transportation is undertaking the Keene Pavement Project, which involves extending existing culverts at 38 stream crossings along State Route 58 in Kern County, under an approved Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. This work is designed to improve drainage infrastructure and maintain environmental compliance, incorporating additional elements such as concrete headwalls, alternate flared end sections, rock slope protection, drainage inlets, and the construction of a new stormwater retention basin to manage runoff and prevent erosion. The project is forecasted for activities beginning in June 2026, with oversight provided by Caltrans District 9 and environmental coordination led by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
