The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source purchase order to the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for laboratory testing and research accreditation assessment services. This procurement will be conducted under the authority permitting negotiation with only one source, as A2LA is uniquely qualified to provide ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation with specialized expertise in environmental Legionella testing. Of the three U.S.-recognized accrediting bodies, A2LA is the only one that routinely maintains assessors with this specific expertise, while others do not offer the capability or are cost-prohibitive due to international travel costs. While this notice is not a request for competitive quotes, the CDC invites interested parties to submit responses within ten days from the notice issuance to be considered for potential competitive procurement. Submissions should be emailed by June 1, 2026, with the intent of ensuring the government evaluates all interested sources before proceeding with the sole source award. The contract falls under NAICS code 541380, and the acquisition will be managed by the CDC Office of Acquisition Services, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Points of contact for this procurement are available to provide further information.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source purchase order to American Association for Laboratory Accreditation for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of 12.102(a) (FAR -RFO) and 41 U.S.C.3304(a)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals.

Contractor: American Association for Laboratory Accreditation

Description of product/service: Laboratory Testing and Research Accreditation Assessment Services

Capability: CDC and ASHRAE guidance recommend ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation by an accrediting body with expertise in environmental Legionella testing. Of the three U.S.-recognized accrediting bodies (A2LA, IAS, and UAF), only A2LA routinely maintains assessors with specialized expertise in environmental Legionella testing. IAS and UAF confirmed they do not routinely provide this capability and recommended A2LA. International providers were determined to be cost prohibitive due to assessor’s travel costs. Therefore, A2LA is the only responsible source capable of meeting the Government’s requirement.
