AI Contract Overview
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source purchase order to the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation for Laboratory Testing and Research Accreditation Assessment Services under the authority of FAR 12.102(a) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1). The requirement stems from CDC and ASHRAE guidance recommending ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation specifically for environmental Legionella testing, a capability uniquely maintained by A2LA among U.S.-recognized accrediting bodies. Other accredited entities, IAS and UAF, have confirmed they lack assessors with this specialized expertise, and international providers were deemed cost-prohibitive due to travel expenses, leaving A2LA as the only responsible source capable of fulfilling the government’s needs. This notice is not a competitive solicitation, but responses submitted by any interested party within ten days of issuance may be considered to determine whether competition is warranted. All submissions must be emailed to the contract specialist at xrm5@cdc.gov no later than close of business on June 1, 2026. The acquisition is identified under solicitation number 000HCJED-2026-97302, with a NAICS code of 541380, and is managed by the CDC Office of Acquisition Services in Atlanta, Georgia. Primary point of contact is Tiesha Brown, with secondary support from David Smythe.

Full Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source purchase order to American Association for Laboratory Accreditation for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of 12.102(a) (FAR -RFO) and 41 U.S.C.3304(a)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals.
Contractor: American Association for Laboratory Accreditation
Description of product/service: Laboratory Testing and Research Accreditation Assessment Services
Capability: CDC and ASHRAE guidance recommend ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation by an accrediting body with expertise in environmental Legionella testing. Of the three U.S.-recognized accrediting bodies (A2LA, IAS, and UAF), only A2LA routinely maintains assessors with specialized expertise in environmental Legionella testing. IAS and UAF confirmed they do not routinely provide this capability and recommended A2LA. International providers were determined to be cost prohibitive due to assessor’s travel costs. Therefore, A2LA is the only responsible source capable of meeting the Government’s requirement.
