The contract involves repairing the Little Ascutney Bridge #B9 over the North Branch of the Black River in Weathersfield, Vermont, which sustained significant damage due to the floods in July and December 2023. The floods caused erosion of streambanks, removal of protective rock slope material, undermining of a wingwall, and scour beneath the bridge's westerly abutment and wingwall, compromising the stability of the structure. If left unaddressed, these damages threaten the integrity of the bridge, risking further deterioration or collapse. The project aims to restore stability by repairing scour damage, replacing the failing wingwall, and implementing mitigation measures to prevent future flood-related damage. Work will include site excavation, concrete work, and embankment reconstruction to ensure the long-term durability of the bridge and surrounding streambanks. The solicitation, titled "Little Ascutney Bridge Flood Repairs RFB," was posted on May 13, 2025, with a response deadline of June 12, 2025. Full Description

The Vermont floods of July and December of calendar year 2023 damaged the existing stream slopes and scoured beneath the bridge footing at the Little Ascutney Bridge #B9 over the North Branch of the Black River along Little Ascutney Road. The floodwaters caused erosion along the streambanks, removed the rock slope protecting material along the streambank, undermined and weakened an existing wingwall which is now collapsing and scoured beneath the footing of the westerly abutment and wingwall. This damage, along with ongoing stream flow caused decay, has created a situation where the bridge and adjacent streambanks are no longer stable, and if left unrepaired and unmitigated will result in significant additional damage to the structure and collapse of the some or all of the bridge components in the near term. The goal of this project is to repair these systems, repair the scour, replace the failing wingwall and to install mitigation measures to reduce damage to the site which will result from ongoing stream flows and future floods. The project includes related site work, excavation, cast-in-place concrete and embankment reconstruction.
