Description of Requirement: This maintenance contract covers the continued support, inspection, calibration, and servicing of the ZEISS LSM 980 / Axio Observer 7 microscope system to ensure reliable, safe, and high-quality operation for all research laboratories that depend on the instrument. The objective is to maintain optimal system performance, minimize downtime, and protect the long-term functionality of this shared imaging resource. 



Justification for Sole Source: 



Only One Source: Carl Zeiss Microscopy is the only known responsible source capable of providing the required services that meet NIAMS technical, compatibility, and continuity requirements in accordance with FAR 6.302-1. 



System Compatibility: Carl Zeiss Microscopy services are fully integrated with NIAMS’ to maintain this microscope at no additional cost to the Government management infrastructure. Substituting another vendor would necessitate complete replacement of equipment/service interfaces, causing significant downtime, retraining, and unacceptable risk to sensitive research materials. 



Proven Performance: Carl Zeiss Microscopy has reliably supported NIAMS operations, demonstrating consistent, timely maintenance and repair performance that protects reagents and research samples.
