The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is hosting an open briefing on March 12, 2009, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at their Auditorium and Science Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, focused on the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Data Management and Communications (DMAC) Subsystem. This event aims to provide industry representatives and interested commercial and non-profit organizations with a comprehensive progress update regarding the development of the IOOS DMAC subsystem, emphasizing both national and regional efforts. Attendees will learn about current programs, recent advancements, and future plans, including a forthcoming Request for Information (RFI) anticipated later in 2009. The RFI seeks input on the design, deployment, and implementation effort for the national IOOS DMAC subsystem, which will adopt an incremental and evolutionary development approach. The briefing will feature presentations from NOAA and federal IOOS partners such as the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Geological Survey, US Environmental Protection Agency, and US Navy. Key agenda items include an overview of the IOOS program goals, data integration framework architecture, regional activities, and the NOAA grants and acquisition process. The event will conclude with a Q&A session. Following the plenary, demonstrations and displays related to IOOS DMAC from NOAA and partner organizations will be available. Due to space limitations, attendance is capped at two representatives per organization, and interested parties must register by February 27, 2009, by contacting the designated NOAA contract specialists. Parking is available onsite with public metered options.
