National Viral Hepatitis Education, Awareness, and Capacity Building for Communities and ProvidersThis funding opportunity aims to advance the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s goals for combating viral hepatitis by strengthening community and provider-level responses to hepatitis B and C in populations most affected. It is structured into two distinct components: Part A focuses on building and sustaining a coalition of public and private organizations to expand educational outreach, increase testing capacity, and improve linkage to care for disproportionately impacted communities through technical assistance and training. Part B targets healthcare professionals by providing free, on-demand, web-based educational resources with continuing education credits and actively promoting these tools to enhance clinical competence in hepatitis B and C evaluation and treatment. Both components work in tandem to empower populations to make informed health decisions and ensure timely access to care, ultimately reducing illness and death from viral hepatitis. Applications for each part must be submitted separately, allowing organizations to pursue one or both components based on their capacity and focus. The initiative is managed by the CDC’s National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention under the Department of Health and Human Services, with point of contact provided for inquiries.

Cancer Center Support Grants (CCSGs) for NCI-designated Cancer Centers (P30 Clinical Trial Optional)This funding opportunity invites applications for Cancer Center Support Grants (CCSGs) to support NCI-Designated Cancer Centers, which are categorized into three types: Comprehensive Cancer Centers, Clinical Cancer Centers, and Basic Cancer Centers. Comprehensive Centers demonstrate strong research activity in basic laboratory, clinical, and prevention/control research while fostering transdisciplinary collaboration. Clinical Cancer Centers primarily focus on some combination of these areas without the broader scope of Comprehensive Centers, while Basic Cancer Centers specialize exclusively in basic laboratory research. The grants aim to consolidate institutional cancer research capabilities into a unified, interdisciplinary research enterprise that crosses institutional boundaries. Supported Cancer Centers are expected to be key contributors to advancing knowledge about cancer and developing improved methods for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Additionally, they must develop Shared Resources to facilitate research, collaborate with other NCI-funded programs and researchers, and actively disseminate their findings to benefit the wider community. The grant application process is managed by the National Cancer Institute under the Department of Health and Human Services, and the opportunity was announced in March 2026. The Rural Maryland Council is administering a $4.7 million grant program under Maryland’s Rural Health Transformation Program to expand access to healthy, locally sourced food in rural communities, supported fully by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services through a federal award of over $168 million. The funding targets initiatives that strengthen regional food systems by enhancing post-harvest infrastructure for small farms, expanding food distribution through food hubs and mobile markets, and increasing local food procurement by institutions such as schools, hospitals, and community organizations. Additional priorities include advancing nutrition education and coordinating efforts to reduce food insecurity in rural “hot spot” areas, with the overarching goal of building a more equitable and resilient food network that improves public health and supports Maryland’s agricultural economy. The grant application process is streamlined into a single phase to accelerate funding deployment, reflecting the tight federal timeline requiring funds to be used within a limited window. Only organizations ready to implement actionable, community-based projects are encouraged to apply, as the program prioritizes speed and impact over lengthy planning cycles. The Maryland Department of Agriculture is the lead agency, with Charlotte Davis of the Rural Maryland Council serving as the primary point of contact, and applications must be submitted by May 15, 2026. While the program draws from federal funds, its design and implementation are led by state and local partners to ensure alignment with community needs across Maryland’s rural regions.

The Rural Maryland Council (RMC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new grant program through Maryland’s Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), with approximately $4.7 million in funding available to support initiatives that improve access to healthy, locally sourced food across rural communities. The Maryland Rural Health Transformation Program is supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $168,180,837.61 with 100 percent funded by CMS/HHS.
This funding focuses on improving access to healthy, locally sourced food while strengthening regional food systems and improving health outcomes in rural communities. The program will support projects that expand post-harvest infrastructure for small farms, enhance food distribution through food hubs and mobile markets, and increase procurement of local foods by institutions such as schools, hospitals, and community organizations.
Additional priorities include advancing nutrition education and supporting regional coordination to address food insecurity in rural “hot spot” communities. Collectively, these efforts are designed to build a more resilient, equitable food system that supports both public health and Maryland’s agricultural economy.
“The Rural Health Transformation Program reflects a collaborative, statewide effort to improve the health and well-being of rural residents,” said Charlotte Davis, Executive Director of the Rural Maryland Council. “We are proud to partner with the Maryland Department of Health and other stakeholders to ensure these investments reach communities where they are needed most. “Additional details on eligibility, application timelines, and program guidelines will be announced soon.
RMC will administer this funding through a streamlined, one-phase grant application process, designed to move resources quickly to projects that are ready for implementation. Due to federal requirements, funding must be deployed within a limited timeframe, making this a unique opportunity for organizations prepared to advance impactful, community-based solutions. The contents of this RFA are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement, by CMS/HHS, or the U.S. Government.
