Full Description

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest is seeking contractors with equipment to perform mechanical site preparation, fuel reduction, and Red Cockaded Woodpecker (RCW) habitat protection in areas affected by Southern Pine Beetle on the Oconee Ranger District. Treatment methods shall include chipping of timber felled last year, chipping or directional felling of standing timber in new spots, felling and removal of individual trees in RCW habitat, and chipping midstory and understory areas to enhance RCW habitat. Equipment may also be used for pre-commercial thinning in young pine stands. Directional felling shall be done with self-propelled shear or saw head equipment. Chipping shall be done with a rotary head mulching chipper, capable of chipping trees up to 20 inches DBH. There are up to 548 acres of chipping in stands felled in 2007 with trees up to 20-inches DBH. It is unknown how many new acres will be affected by the beetle and what actual treatment will be selected. This will be an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract with the possibility for multiple awards. The duration is for a base year and one option year. Vendors shall provide a description of the equipment being offered and quote an hourly operating rate. Task orders will be issued on either an hourly basis or a per-acre basis. For work ordered by the acre, before a task order is issued, the location and nature of the work will be specified and a final price requested for that order.
