Medea Creek Maintenance Project #1 (Notification of Streambed Alteration, No. EPIMS-VEN-48802-R5)

The Medea Creek Maintenance Project #1, identified by Streambed Alteration Notification No. EPIMS-VEN-48802-R5, is an amended agreement between the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. Located in the City of Oak Park, Ventura County, the project is conducted pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code and has been determined categorically exempt from CEQA. The scope of work is limited to the removal of deadwood, debris, and invasive plant species from Medea Creek, a tributary to Malibu Creek. Project activities will be performed by crews on foot using hand tools, involving hand-pulling, cutting, and the direct application of herbicide. Non-native trees will be cut into sections and lowered to the ground, while remaining stumps will be treated with herbicide. Invasive plants are to be removed off-site and disposed of at a landfill, while debris and deadwood will be mulched and spread across the project area outside of the stream banks. Administrative oversight is provided by the CDFW South Coast Region 5 office, with Jennifer Blackbird serving as the primary Environmental Scientist contact.
