Full Description

The existing building was constructed in 1934 as a freight transfer station situated adjacent to the railroad lines. The County purchased the property in 2007 with the vision for it to serve as the Trail Junction Center (TJC) at the intersection of the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) and the Chester Valley Trail (CVT), two regional trails heavily used by bicyclists and pedestrians. The County enlisted architects and landscape architects to develop construction documents for necessary building and site renovations in order for the TJC to provide desired amenities for trail users and flexible community space. The building has been unoccupied for many years and the interior along with the majority of the façade openings require extensive upgrades to facilitate adaptive reuse of the building and site. On April 15, 2025, the County conducted a cleanup of waste, trash, and debris at the Trail Junction Center and installed fencing to better secure the property in anticipation of the upcoming construction work.
