The City of Rensselaer is seeking proposals from qualified firms to develop a free public Wi-Fi network within its Riverfront Park system, specifically targeting the Hudson Riverfront Art Park and the Public Esplanade. Funded by a Community Development Block Grant, the project involves designing, installing, and maintaining the wireless infrastructure, with equipment procurement potentially available through state contracts. The selected firm will be responsible for creating a business plan to cover ongoing maintenance costs, which will be financed through advertising revenue displayed on the network’s portal page, along with other permissible business models. The City’s assets, including buildings and streetlight poles, may be utilized for infrastructure deployment, but proposals must address any limitations related to existing facilities and permits, especially concerning highway-owned structures requiring special permits. The scope of work encompasses system design, equipment and licensing procurement, internet service sourcing, installation, warranty provision, and ongoing system monitoring and maintenance. The network aims to deliver strong outdoor coverage across designated areas, with a focus on ensuring reliable connectivity in the specified park zones. Proposals are due by February 28, 2024, and should be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office. The contract duration spans from June 23, 2022, to June 24, 2024. The project does not include set-asides for service-disabled veteran-owned or disadvantaged businesses, and there are no previous local awards of similar contracts by the City. Additional details and the full Request for Proposals are available on the City’s Planning Department website.
