In accordance with the FAA Acquisition Management System 3.2.2.4, the purpose of this announcement is to inform industry of the FAA's decision to contract with a selected source via single-source procedures. This announcement is for informational purposes only, not a Solicitation/Request for Proposal. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) intends to extend its current contract with VAISALA INC, 194 South Taylor Avenue, Louisville CO 80027 for delivery of cloud to ground lightning for the geographic region of the CONUS, Puerto Rico and the USVI (Zone 1). The contract is being extended to include two-three month option periods commencing on April 7, 2013. This data is for use by the FAA’s Automated Lightning Detection and Report System (ALDARS). In July 2012, the FAA received proposals in response to the FAA’s SIR DTFAWA-12-R-00005 for the competitive procurement of lightning data. Due to the current budgetary climate, the FAA is unable to award the new contract. After resolution of the current budgetary issues, the FAA intends to award the new contract approximately (30) days later.
