The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate a sole source contract with MPI America Inc. for an upgrade to a probe station temperature control system originally manufactured by MPI. This decision is based on the unique position of MPI America as the original equipment manufacturer, which is the only source capable of providing compatible upgraded components, installation services, and warranty to ensure the proper functioning of the existing 200mm wafer probe station. The procurement will be conducted under simplified acquisition procedures authorized by federal statutes, with a firm-fixed-price purchase order anticipated for award by June 2026. NIST is issuing a notice of intent, not a solicitation, inviting other parties who can demonstrate capability to meet the upgrade requirements to respond in writing by May 19, 2025. The contract falls under the Semiconductor and Related Device Manufacturing sector (NAICS Code 334413), with a size standard of 1,250 employees. The place of performance is Boulder, Colorado, and questions or responses should be directed to the designated point of contact at NIST. This action is intended to determine if competitive procedures are feasible; if not, the sole source award to MPI America will proceed.
