The National Science Foundation plans to award a sponsorship contract to the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) for their 2020 National Conference titled "Achieve Inspire Support Explore Succeed," scheduled for October 15-17, 2020, in Spokane, Washington. Given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event may be shifted from in-person to a virtual format. AISES is a nonprofit organization committed to increasing the representation of Indigenous peoples of North America—including Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and others—in STEM fields through extensive programming and support spanning K-12 through professional levels across the US and Canada. The National Conference is recognized as a leading gathering for Indigenous STEM professionals and students, attracting up to 2,500 participants focused on advancing Indigenous STEM education, careers, and research. The sponsorship from the NSF will fund recognition within the conference program, association with fellow sponsors, and the opportunity to distribute materials to attendees. This contract is issued under a sole source notice of intent, without soliciting competitive proposals, to provide the NSF with a unique opportunity to engage directly with the Indigenous STEM community and stay informed about emerging trends and workforce needs. The Directorate for Engineering within NSF is handling this award, and the contract details, including contact information for the NSF representative Angela Johnson, are publicly accessible through the federal procurement portal.
