AI Contract Overview
The Federal Bureau of Investigation intends to sole-source the acquisition of a TubeWriter 400 Direct High-Speed Alphanumeric Printing System, along with onsite installation and training, a one-year ink subscription, and a one-year Platinum Service Care plan, all from TubeWriter, LLC. This procurement is justified under FAR 6.302-1 due to the unique capability of the TubeWriter 400 to directly print permanent, high-resolution alphanumeric text and barcodes onto curved plastic laboratory tubes, a requirement that no other commercially available system can meet. Competing label-based systems are deemed unsuitable because they risk peeling, smearing, or degrading under extreme conditions such as exposure to liquid nitrogen, ethanol, isopropanol, repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and autoclaving, which would compromise sample integrity in forensic workflows. The system must operate without adhesive consumables, require no proprietary adapters, and support multiple tube diameters with low maintenance, all of which are exclusive to the TubeWriter 400. The delivery must be completed within 120 days after order receipt at the FBI Laboratory in Virginia, and the procurement is structured as a firm fixed-price contract under NAICS code 334516, with TubeWriter, LLC identified as a small, minority-owned business that qualifies under the 1,000-employee size standard. Interested parties may respond by May 14, 2026, via email only, providing their DUNS, CAGE, UEI, and business size, along with a detailed capability statement demonstrating how they could satisfy the mandatory technical requirements—though the government retains sole discretion to determine whether competition is advantageous. No pricing details are disclosed, and no reimbursement will be provided for submission costs. The requirement explicitly excludes any alternative technologies, and future market research is committed to if viable competitors emerge.
