In operation since 1977, the Nuans System, a key component to the incorporation process, is used to compare a proposed corporate name or trademark with existing corporate names or trademarks, in order to reduce confusion in the marketplace. This protects the corporate community and consumers alike.
Each province, territory and the federal government has an administrator of its corporate law. Each jurisdiction decides which new corporate names to allow and records this information in its own databank. This and other data are then sent to the Nuans System for inclusion in the aggregate Nuans Database.
Nuans provides automated search, inquiry and reservation services for existing and proposed names. The Nuans System databases contain over 18 million registered corporate, business / trade names, and trademarks. The Nuans System generates a report of proposed names, existing (registered) corporate names and trademarks that are similar in sound, meaning and appearance to the proposed new name, as inputted by the Searcher.
