Park Entrance and Land Acknowledgement Signs

The California Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking to install or replace park entrance signs at Azalea State Natural Reserve, Fort Humboldt State Historic Park, and Little River State Beach. These signs are intended to provide land acknowledgments, informing visitors of the indigenous people whose land the parks occupy. A total of five signs will be installed, with one at Azalea State Natural Reserve and two each at Little River State Beach and Fort Humboldt State Historic Park. The installation process involves excavating two 12-inch diameter holes at a depth of 48 inches, spaced approximately 96 inches apart, using hand tools or small gas-powered augers. To minimize ground disturbance, the project will prioritize placing the new signs in the same locations as existing signage where reasonable. The project is based in Eureka, California, and is managed by District Planner Rosalind Litzky.
