PG&E-Bodega Marine Reserve Tree Removal License

University of California, Davis is establishing a license agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) to facilitate the removal of 70 declining Monterey cypress trees at the Bodega Marine Reserve located at 2099 Westshore Road, Bodega Bay, California. The project is driven by the need to mitigate public safety risks, wildfire hazards, and infrastructure threats caused by aging trees dropping limbs. Additionally, the work ensures compliance with California Public Utilities Commission General Order 95, California Public Resources Code section 4203, and FAC-003-X regarding safety clearances between vegetation and overhead powerlines. Following the removal, the area will be restored with native coastal dune scrub habitat. The license period is scheduled from August 30, 2026, to November 30, 2026. The project is designated for forest fire protection purposes and must be conducted under the authority of Section 5-116(d) of the State Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Code. It has been granted a categorical exemption under CEQA Class 1 and Class 4. Administrative oversight is managed by the Director of Campus and Environmental Planning at UC Davis, and the work is classified under NAICS code 115310.
