Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Plan Project

The City of Los Angeles is advancing the Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Plan Project to install protected bike lanes along a 3.5-mile stretch of Pico Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and Figueroa Street. This initiative will reconfigure existing road space by reallocating travel lanes and reducing on-street parking to accommodate dedicated cycling infrastructure, enhancing safety and connectivity for nonmotorized users. The project aims to close a critical gap in the city’s active transportation network by linking existing bike lanes on Figueroa Street and Venice Boulevard via 4th Avenue, improving multimodal access across a major commercial and cultural corridor. In addition to the bike lanes, the project includes sidewalk repairs, improved curb ramps, updated roadway striping, and signal modifications to support pedestrian and cyclist movement. New Toucan traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Pico/Manhattan and Pico/New Hampshire to provide coordinated crossings for cyclists and pedestrians. The overall effort strengthens the city’s commitment to equitable, sustainable transportation and aligns with broader goals to expand safe, accessible infrastructure for all users.
