Placer County 2050 General Plan Update (Placer 2050)

Placer County is undertaking a comprehensive update to its General Plan, formally titled Placer County 2050, to guide development and land use in unincorporated areas through the year 2050. This update is mandated by state law, which requires general plans to be periodically revised to reflect evolving conditions, emerging challenges, and new legislation. The plan will incorporate all eight required state elements—land use, circulation, housing, open space, noise, safety, conservation, and environmental justice—building upon the existing 1994 plan and its 2013 update. The project aims to establish long-term goals, policies, and implementation strategies that shape sustainable growth, infrastructure, housing, and community resilience across the unincorporated regions of the county. Public engagement remains a cornerstone of the process, with ongoing workshops and meetings designed to gather input from residents, stakeholders, and agencies to ensure transparency and community-driven outcomes. The initiative is being managed by Placer County, with primary coordination led by Senior Planner Lucy Rollins and support from Associate Principal Alexis Mena of Placeworks. The planning area encompasses all unincorporated parts of the county, with the EIR study area defining the scope of environmental review. Although the solicitation is currently listed as a forecast with no formal solicitation number or NAICS code, the project is actively progressing, with key documentation and updates available through the California Environmental Quality Act portal. The updated General Plan will serve as the regulatory and strategic foundation for future development decisions in the region, aligning with state mandates and community priorities for the next three decades.
