The City of Sacramento is undertaking a significant initiative to expand its telecommunications infrastructure through large-scale fiber optic and small cell deployments within the public right-of-way. Annually, the city anticipates reviewing and approving permits for approximately 200 miles of fiber installations, both underground and aerial, along with around 50 small cell sites mounted on city-owned street lights. Each project requires a thorough review process by the City’s Development Engineering Division, which assesses compliance with local telecommunications codes before issuing necessary permits, including site licenses, construction encroachment permits, and revocable permits. To facilitate this process, a specialized consulting team will be engaged to act as an extension of city staff, managing permit reviews, administration, and potentially providing additional administrative support to ensure efficient deployment of these telecommunications assets. The contract, titled "Plan Review Services for Fiber & Small Cell Installation," is set within a budget range of $500,000 to $2,000,000 and is open to responses until October 27, 2025. It is managed under the NAICS code 517919, indicating a focus on telecommunications infrastructure services. The selected consultant will work under the direction of the City’s Project Manager, providing essential administrative and technical review services to support the city’s goal of modernizing its telecommunications network. Interested parties can contact Raquel Gonzalez via email or phone for further details, with additional information available through the provided online portal.
