The Department of Veterans Affairs, through the Great Lakes Acquisition Center, plans to award a sole source contract to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for acute stroke referral services at the Tomah VA Medical Center. This five-year contract is intended to address the VA’s need to provide comprehensive stroke care for veterans, as the Tomah VA facility is designated as a Supporting Stroke Facility with limited resources and capabilities to manage acute stroke cases. Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, a Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center located near the VA, is uniquely qualified to meet these needs due to its specialized stroke treatment services and 24/7 access to emergency medical air transportation. Their air ambulance service is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems, ensuring timely and efficient patient transfers. The procurement will be executed under the authority for a sole source contract, citing that Gundersen is the only responsible source meeting the VA’s requirements for proximity, certification, and transport capabilities. Interested parties are invited to submit capability statements describing their relevant experience and certifications for consideration, although the final decision on competition rests solely with the government. All questions related to this procurement must be directed in writing to the Contracting Officer by the specified deadline. This contract supports the need for rapid and specialist intervention for acute stroke patients, improving the level of care accessible to veterans served by the Tomah VA Medical Center.
