The Department of Veterans Affairs Great Lakes Acquisition Center has issued a justification for other than full and open competition to procure surgical support for the Milwaukee VAMC. The requirement specifically involves providing a Medtronic representative to offer technical assistance and training for the use of the Medtronic Stealth Station S7 Axiem System within the Otolaryngology Neurosurgery department. Because Medtronic is the original manufacturer of the equipment, they are identified as the only responsible source capable of providing the extended Surgical Support Program Service1-SS2. The agreement specifies a cost of 3,000 dollars per case when purchased in lots of six. This non-competitive action is authorized under 41 USC 253(g) and FAR 6.302-1, as no other vendors can provide the necessary manufacturer-specific technical support for this system.
