The Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey (USGS), EROS Data Center plans to award a five-year maintenance contract to Kongsberg Aerospace & Defense to provide maintenance and on-call phone and email support for seven (7) Kongsberg wideband demodulators.
The proposed action may be awarded on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1) ¿ only one source reasonably available.
As the original manufacturer of the demodulators, Kongsberg Aerospace & Defense possess unique technical knowledge and proprietary design details used for maintaining these assets. The USGS will continue to review opportunities to increase competition by monitoring industry capabilities and engaging with potential vendors through market research. Should USGS determine new demodulators be needed, or if the current demodulators become unsupportable, USGS will compete full and open.
