Funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Task Order 610 focuses on researching modeling and simulation capabilities to facilitate Unmanned Air Systems access to the NextGen airspace. By utilizing simulation to test various scenarios, the project aims to reduce the costs, time, and risks associated with actual flight tests. The ultimate goal is to develop an enhanced simulation capability that provides high fidelity replication of operational procedures for pilots, air traffic controllers, and UAS operators. This award notice serves as an informational update for a task order issued under the existing competitive cost reimbursement contract NNA05BE28C. Due to the inherent variability of the research and development involved, the project is structured as a Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee type task order. The work falls under NAICS code 541380 and was posted on September 10, 2010.

RECOVERY - This action is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Actof 2009. The work of Task Order 610 is to research how modeling and simulationcapabilities can help address some of the issues involved with UAS access to the NextGen.Simulation allows researchers to generate various scenarios that can be tested withoutthe need for actual flight tests, which are expensive and time-consuming. Simulation alsoallows innovative concepts to be investigated safely and with significantly less risk. The result of this research will be an enhanced simulation capability that can providehigh fidelity replication of operational procedures among UAS operators, air trafficcontrollers, and pilots.

This award notice is for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. The task order is issued under anexisting cost reimbursment contract NNA05BE28C, which was made on a competitive basis.Due to the variability of this research and development work a Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee typetask order was determined appropriate.
