The Social Security Administration Office of Acquisition and Grants issued award notice ssa-rfq-12-1748 for the procurement of Brocade MLXe-4 systems. This acquisition supports the creation of a new third data center, the National Service Center, which is intended to replace the aging National Computer Center in Woodlawn. To ensure a seamless migration, the agency is establishing a simulated lab environment to test data replication and mimic network latency across a 40-mile distance. The specific requirement for Brocade MLXe-4 systems is driven by the need to mirror the production environment as closely as possible, as these systems utilize the same code and configurations as the MLXe-32 equipment currently in use. Because no other brand offers compatible code, these switches are essential for testing new code, patches, and configuration changes to mitigate operational risks. This opportunity was restricted to contractors under the NASA SEWP vehicle.

This notice is provided for information purposes only. This opportunity was available only to contractors under NASA SEWP. SSA is creating a new, third data center (NSC) to replace the aging National Computer Center in Woodlawn. To prepare for and engineer a faultless migration to this new data center (NSC), several labs will be built to test data replication as well as to mimic the latency that will be present in the proposed design of a local network that covers the distance of 40 miles. The simulated NSC lab is where this will be done. This lab needs to simulate the production environment as closely as possible. DNE requires Brocade MLXe-4 systems in the lab in order to simulate the production environment. At this moment, there is no environment to test new code, patches, or configuration changes on the Brocade network equipment. The MLXe-4 systems use the same code and configurations as the larger MLXe-32 equipment currently installed in the production environment. No other brand network equipment uses the same code and configurations as the Brocade MLX line. In order to mitigate problems, DNE requires these switches for testing purposes.
